Young people have been hit hard by Covid-19 and are a top priority for the Mayor and the London Recovery Board. Young Londoners have told us about the transformational impact that mentors and role models can have on their lives.  

The New Deal for Young People has committed that by 2024 all young people most in need of support will be entitled to a personal mentor and all young Londoners have access to quality youth activities.  

The Mayor of London is providing grant funding across three programmes to build on the amazing work already happening across London providing personalised support to those young people that need it the most. Our aim is to champion this great work and embed the best quality mentoring possible and increase their reach to even more young people. 

Today we are launching funding opportunities for three programmes with a focus on mentoring: 

Leaders: 7-12 grants of between £100,000 and £500,000 to expand quality mentoring for young people and provide support to other organisations delivering mentoring 

Headstart Action: 2 grants of up to £150,000 to support local organisations to deliver mentoring and youth social action, and provide employability training and work experience opportunities for young people across London 

STEAM Mentoring*: 5-10 grants of between £50,000 and £100,000 to expand quality STEAM mentoring for young people and to support STEAM employers who want to expand or introduce mentoring programmes.

The ‘Black History Month 365’ Fund has launched its second Round. This year was the first time, A2Dominion Housing Group, Catalyst Housing and Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing have teamed up to launch a collective fund to support small organisations, residents groups and charity to celebrating black history.

In our first round, we managed to support seven unique projects, including African drumming classes at West Thames College and African Families in the UK (AFiUK); Sister Talk project an International Day for the elimination of Violence Against Women which was a day of activities that provided black African heritage women with a platform to discuss gender-based issues.

This fund provides grants of up to £500 throughout the year for events, activities and projects celebrating black history; it is open to applications from residents, community groups, schools and local organisations.
