Apprenticeship level: Intermediate Level 2 (GCSE)

Expected duration: 24 Months

Annual wage: £9,609.60 to £18,964.40

We are looking for an Apprentice to work with our Estate Gardeners to carry out a broad range of gardening activities around the historic 65-acre grounds. The role will also help with preparing for and guiding our volunteers, so will require communication skills. Constructing and maintaining gardens, parks, greenspaces and other horticultural areas.

What will the apprentice be doing?

The day starts with a team briefing to confirm the day’s activities – these are dependent on the season;

Autumn/Winter more focused on:

• Planting
• Rose-pruning and maintenance of the wider estate: coppicing, hedge maintenance, invasive weed clearance in the Wilderness areas

Spring/Summer more focused on:

• Pruning
• Weeding
• Watering in the shrubbery and Italian gardens
• There are a whole variety of other tasks all year round – thereÂ’s a lot to do.

Volunteers generally join us three mornings per week.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

• Horticulture or Landscape Construction Operative Level 2
• One day a week at college
• Functional Skills English and maths level 1
• Emergency first aid at work
• Level 2 award in the safe use of pesticides PA1

Hounslow Council is starting to think about the development of our 2024-2028 Thriving Communities Strategy. A central part of the previous strategy has been our support to, and partnership with, the VCSE sector. 

We would like to hear your views about the sector, your aspirations for the sector and what support organisations might need to meet current and future challenges. This will help us to develop the new strategy.

Heathrow Community TrustÂ’s Projects for Young People grant programme is opened for its second grant round of 2023. Below are the details, which I would be grateful if you could share with your networks.

The Projects for Young People Round 2 opened on 10 July 2023 for grants of up to £15,000 for projects with a total cost of up to £60,000.  This round closes on 11 September 2023 at 10am.

The programme has 3 themes, and projects must demonstrate a fit with one theme:

·     Y1 Supporting the local community by creating opportunities for young people up to age 24 to make a positive change to their behaviour about their future (e.g. raised aspirations, improved attitude to learning, increased knowledge of progression opportunities).

·     Y2 Supporting the local community by creating opportunities for young people up to age 24 to break down barriers to employment through skills development.

·     Y3 Supporting the local community by creating opportunities for young people up to age 24 to improve their quality of life (e.g. increased resilience, improved mental health).

An exciting new grants programme focused on building partnerships in health is now LIVE for community organisations.

The Community Action for Partnerships in Health is providing microgrants at either £2,000 or £5,000. Applications will close at 5pm on Friday 11^th August.

The programme is looking to build stronger community resilience through funding community-led initiatives. These initiatives will scope, develop and/or deliver sustainable and community-led methods of building partnership between communities and health services. Proposals may incorporate the following themes:

• • Hearing and responding to community health priorities
  • Improving community access to health services
  • Developing sustainable methods of building partnership between communities and health services
