Hounslow Community Hub launched

The priority of the Hub for now is to protect the most isolated and vulnerable individuals identified and contacted by the NHS to be ‘shielded’. These residents have serious long-term health conditions and it is vital that we ensure there are support networks in place to make sure they’re looked after. The Hub is also there for anyone else vulnerable and isolated who may not have been contacted by the NHS.

Working with voluntary and community partners, businesses and local volunteers, the Hub will connect people with each other and ensure food, supplies and other support reaches those most in need.

The Hub is also the place for people, community groups and businesses to volunteer to help, and there’s an online form to register.

Update on parking permits

In line with government guidelines, our parking restrictions and controls currently remain in place and enforcement activity is continuing.  However, we recognise that the current situation requires flexibility on our part and have introduced the following changes to our normal arrangements.

  • Additional temporary resident permits are available for purchase if permit holders have additional family members or carers temporarily living with them for extended periods.  This is also available for those that didnÂ’t previously require an annual parking permit but do at the current time. This is being priced pro-rata at £27/ 4 months.  This is cheaper then providing visitor permits over a longer period.  The same rules apply for this permit as would for a normal residents permit, you have to be a resident in the borough and live in a CPZ. Proof of residency and vehicle ownership (further information HERE on what proofs are accepted ) should be emailed to parking.permits@hounslow.gov.uk.  You will then be contacted to arrange payment.
  • The number of visitor permits residents can purchase has been increased to 25 booklets.
  • The commencement date for the new Thornbury Avenue CPZ (extension) and Ridgeway Road CPZ is being delayed until further notice.  All residents affected will receive confirmation of this shortly, and we will write to them again once a new commencement date has been agreed.

Parks and Green Spaces

HounslowÂ’s parks and green spaces are much loved, and we want to keep them open so people can enjoy them for a walk or exercise during these challenging times. However, to ensure they can stay open for everyone to use, people must follow the GovernmentÂ’s rules to stop the spread of coronavirus. If people are inconsiderate and ignore these rules and put others at risk, Hounslow, like some other London boroughs, will be forced to close them.

This means one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of their household. And even when doing this, people should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring they are two metres apart from anyone outside of their household. Road Safety GB is urging all road users to do their bit to reduce the strain on the emergency services in the coming weeks and months, by taking extra care every time they travel. On average 70 people per day were seriously injured (25,511) in 2019 – all of whom would have required hospital treatment. We can all do our bit to reduce the strain on the NHS through limiting journeys to only essential trips and taking extra care. roadsafetygb.org.uk

We’re all now spending a lot more time at home, which is why staying as physically active as possible is more important than ever. Not only does it benefit our physical health it can be great for our mental health too and there are many activities you can do, even in the comfort of your own home. Each day you can still go outside for one form of exercise, such as a walk, a run or a cycle, if you’re well enough and as long as youÂ’re on your own, or with members of your household.

The OneYouHounslow service will continue to provide advice and support to keep us all active and healthy at home.

Hounslow Council inclusive cycling sessions- postponed

In light of government advice given surrounding the current situation with COVID-19 the planned all ability inclusive cycling sessions to be held at Inwood Park have been postponed.

They are following government guidelines closely and will be looking to reschedule the sessions as soon as it safe to do so.

Youth Futures Foundation launches grants programme to tackle youth unemployment

Our rolling grants programme is now live.  We are launching at a time of unprecedented challenge as we all grapple with the impact of Covid-19.  We know there will be significant implications for young people and the organisations that support them.
Separately to our planned launch the Youth Futures Foundation is doing two key things:
1. We are calling for government to unlock an emergency support package for charities and social enterprises working with children and young people.
2. We are working in partnership with other funders to develop a nationwide emergency funding response for the youth, community and employment sector. If you are seeking urgent funding to sustain your organisation over the next 3-6 months, this may be more appropriate for you than our rolling grants programme.
Rapid funding for the sector is critical, but we know from speaking to many of you over the past few days that long-term funding is also crucial. In launching our grants programme today as planned, we hope to be as helpful as possible with our simple-to-access, rolling grants programme, so that you can focus on the vital work of supporting some of the most vulnerable young people in our communities now and in the future.
It has been our longstanding intention to launch our grants programmes in Spring 2020, with the objective to find, fund, support and evaluate promising practice and to understand what works when tackling youth unemployment.
After listening to youth organisations we have decided to proceed with our funding launch as planned. Many organisations are finding innovative ways to continue delivering services and making plans for the coming years, and need to know how these activities will be funded.
Our new fund will be distributed to organisations across England that have a promising track record of supporting young people who face barriers to accessing employment. We will fund delivery work and related overhead costs for specific programmes, entire organisations, partnerships or consortiums. Our aim is to fund in the most helpful and flexible way possible for grant recipients. In addition, we will provide capacity building support to help organisations strengthen and grow their work. Our rolling programme allows organisations to apply throughout the year, with quarterly decision making rather than separate rounds or deadlines.
The launch of this fund is an important first step in our ability to build a lasting, robust evidence base of what works to help those young people who face the most challenges moving into work. Our aim is that this learning can help to better support policy makers, employers, funders and commissioners to ensure that all young people can pursue meaningful and sustained economic pathways for the future.
In the face of Covid-19 our work has become more important than ever. When this crisis passes there will be more young people with gaps in their education, more young people with inadequate training and more young people out of work. We are committed to addressing this now and for the long term.
