Thriving Communities Strategy

The new Thriving Communities Strategy was launched this week and the strategy document is now available on the Hounslow Council website

This sets out how the council will work with our residents over the next four years to develop thriving communities across the borough supported by a strong voluntary and community sector. This is an integrated strategy bringing together the work of many departments across the council and addresses the challenges we anticipate that individuals, communities and VCSE service providers will face in the 2019-2023 period. With reduced financial resources, the council is continuing to reshape our approach to collaborative working to deliver what the community and the VCSE Sector are telling us they need.

Hounslow Giving is a new place-based giving initiative that brings together HounslowÂ’s residents, community and voluntary organisations, businesses, funders and other key stakeholders to raise funds and engage volunteers to reduce poverty and inequality and support local good causes in Hounslow. We are passionate about unlocking HounslowÂ’s potential and transforming the lives of residents by building on local community assets and leveraging the money, talent and time for the benefit of residents.
We are currently recruiting a Development Officer who will be responsible for developing and enhancing relationships with corporate and small businesses,
residents, and the public and voluntary sectors. The post holder will also be required to work with the Hounslow Giving Steering Group to establish clear strategy and systems to make Hounslow Giving a trusted and successful initiative for bringing new resources into Hounslow.
We are looking for someone who is: dynamic, a self-starter and able to work independently, able to think strategically, and understands corporate and small businesses on the one hand and community needs on the other. Must be able to: develop systems to ensure a transparent and trusted fundraising platform to mobilise money, time and expertise towards local good causes; a good communicator to raise awareness of the initiative and develop strategic relationships with businesses and key partners. The right person could come from a broad background including private sector and someone who enjoys challenges and problem solving.

Service Announcement: Hounslow EU Settlement Service 2019/2020
Hounslow Voluntary Sector Support is pleased to formally announce that it is one of the 57 organisations throughout the UK that will be working with the Home Office to support HounslowÂ’s most vulnerable and hard to reach EU citizens applying to the EU Settlement Scheme.
The EU Settlement Scheme is designed to make it straightforward for EU citizens and their family members to stay after the UK leaves the EU. Hounslow’s specialist project; The Hounslow EU Settlement Service’s is now open Monday to Friday 10:00am – 16:00pm (appointments and advice) and Saturday 10:00am – 13:30pm (appointments only) providing;
•        A dedicated immigration service, one-to-one immigration advice and practical support available in person and via the FREE advice line 0800 0564 745
•        We also provide out of hours telephone advice and support until 19:00pm.
•        Home visiting service.
•        Care home visits.
•        Drop-in sessions for eligible EU citizens to explain and apply for EUSS:
•        Thursday 13:00pm – 16:00pm and Friday 10:00am – 12:00pm at CAN Mezzanine, Treaty Centre (Level 2) Hounslow TW3 1ES
•        End-to-end service: Working with EU citizens through the application process (e.g. helping gather relevant documents, explain form content, and sit alongside applicant to complete the process).
•        Immigration advice with our project partners West London Equality Centre.
•        Weekly accessible workshops to Voluntary groups to raise awareness and better understand the EU Settlement Scheme.
•        Assisted digital support available at The Treaty Centre Thursday  and Friday 9:30am – 14:30pm

•        Victims of Domestic Violence/Modern Slavery/Trafficking/Children
•        EU Families
•        Victims of domestic abuse
•        Elder People –Disabled People /Serious Health conditions
•        Residents in Care Homes
•        Homeless People
•        EU elder people
Many of your organisations are already doing great work supporting vulnerable EU Citizens resident in Hounslow and we understand the additional pressures of often being asked to provide assistance outside of your service scope, therefore organisations can direct refer service users into the project by completing the attached Service Referral Form.

London Borough of Hounslow Procurement Workshop for VCSE Organisations

Are you interested in bidding for future VCSE contracts with Hounslow Council?

Do you want to better understand what you would need to do and have in place?

The Community Partnerships Unit will be recommissioning a number of services to be delivered from April 2020. These include:

  • Advice services
  • Volunteering
  • VCSE Sector Support
  • Community Transport and Shopmobility

The tendering process for these services will beginning in September 2019 and the CPU and Procurement Team will be running a workshop for VCSE organisations on HounslowÂ’s tendering process. The workshop will focus on general requirements and the process involved, rather than on any specific contract so please come along even if you might be interested in bidding for services other than those above.

Jack Petchey Foundation Workshop

This workshop will take place on:  Tuesday 30th July 2019 14:00 – 16:00pm at, CAN Mezzanine, 2nd Floor, Treaty Shopping Centre, Hounslow, TW3 1ES.
The session will be delivered by Harriette Tillott, grants officer at the Jack Petchey Foundation. The session is open to both Ealing and Hounslow groups
The Jack Petchey Foundation is eager to help young people take advantage of opportunities and to play a full part in society. To this end, the Jack Petchey Foundation has given over £118 million in grants since it was established in 1999.
This session will provide information on the help, support and development offered. Ultimately helping your young people go even further by becoming part of the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme, through the annual funding of up to £3,600 to help recognise and reward achievements.
The Achievement Award scheme runs successfully in nearly 2000 schools, colleges and clubs across London and Essex. The scheme itself offers an excellent way to recognise the achievement of your young people in a public and positive way and it also provides valuable additional funding for your organisation. Once signed up your organisations can take advantage of our other programmes which include the Leaders Award, Small Grant Programme, and Educational Visit.

Health Champions Training

Health Champions are people who, with relevant and free training and support, transform the health and well-being of their friends, families, colleagues and communities. Health Champions share essential information and health messages to enable others to enjoy healthier lives. Hounslow Health Champions are part of the new Help Your Health programme – designed to reduce health inequalities in Hounslow through a programme of information, training and volunteering
This workshop will help you to:
* Understand how effective communication can support health messages
* Know how to promote improvements in health and well-being to individuals
* Understand the impact of change on improving an individualÂ’s health and well being
Day 1 takes place on Wednesday 19th June 10am – 3pm and Day 2 on Friday 21st June 10am – 3pm.
You will need to attend both days to complete the training and become a Health Champion.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our team and lead our new NCT Birth and Beyond Community Supporters project in Feltham and Hounslow. The project is currently funded until June 2020 and will train mothers to provide peer support to other mothers.
This is a key post to help NCT broaden its reach and relevance to parents of all backgrounds and in building up its reputation as a credible provider of services.
About the role

  • Delivery project using standard service delivery toolkits
  • Recruitment and management of volunteers, including safer recruitment and DBS checks
  • Liaison with the peer support trainers to ensure they are well supported in their role on the project
  • Liaison with local health care professionals including establishing a close working relationship, developing effective referral pathways to ensure that they have a clear understandeing of the project and make referrals to the service
  • Ensure that the service is delivered to the project specification and agreed budget which must be strictly adhered to
  • Manage servies according to the project specification which may include establishing new peer support groups
  • Build confidence in and awareness of the service with local health professionals in order to build effective referral pathways.  This will include mapping key teams, attending team meetings and formal presentations.

The role will be home-based with some travel around Feltham and Hounslow area. The role is 28 hours per week.
Please note that this role will require a DBS check to be carried out.
About you:
We are looking for someone with a keen interest in the transition to parenthood and a good understanding of the role of peer supporters coupled with excellent communication and IT skills and time management.
You should have experience of the initiation and ongoing management of complex projects across multiple locations, building relationships across organisations to deliver community support, managing referrals and extensive experience of managing volunteers.
You should also have experience of undertaking data collection and using this to draft professional reports. You should be comfortable working independently and be able to demonstrate experience of successfully working with diverse cultural groups.
