Universal Credit in London: Advice for Advisors

Designed for those working with families in receipt of Universal Credit, or those experiencing difficulties navigating and accessing the benefit system.
 This free, half day workshop will provide you with expert advice on Universal Credit rules and procedures to help you maximise the income of families you support.

The Citizen Led Engagement Programme

We are very excited to be launching the second round of the Mayor’s ‘Citizen Led Engagement Programme’ today!
The Citizen Led Engagement Programme is led by the MayorÂ’s Community Engagement team. We are inviting community groups to apply for grant funding to create their own community-led research projects in collaboration with the GLA.
The pilot programme took place between October 2017 – May 2018 and supported six citizen-led inquiry projects. These tailored projects helped us to engage with groups which have historically been less represented at City Hall.
This year, alongside our colleagues in Equality and Fairness and Health teams, we are sponsoring projects which seek to gain insight into a target community who are historically less represented at City Hall, or those communities affected by a specific social or political issue. The insights gained will feed into our core work.

Objectives
The Citizen Led Engagement Programme aims to:
• Strengthen connections and engagement with communities whose voice and influence on public policy is under-represented.
• Improve insights into communities who do not currently have a voice in City Hall
• Identify and develop community leaders within community groups and support capacity building within these groups.
• Generate insight which is valued and used to inform policy and practice in City Hall.
• Build on the learnings from the pilot round of Citizen Led Programme, as a way of engaging communities and groups in the work of the GLA.
How to apply
There are a number of stages to the application process:
1) Sign up to attend an information session
2) Submit your application form and supporting documents by 12:00 noon on Monday 4 March 2019.
3) Organisations will be shortlisted based on their evidence submitted and invited to interview at City Hall on either Friday 8 March or Monday 11 March 2019.
4) First grant payment will be awarded in late March 2019.

The London Borough of Hounslow is seeking views to inform how it can improve the experience and service of the nine cemeteries and four churchyards it manages in the borough. The draft cemetery strategy (2019 – 2029) will help shape the future direction of services.

An interactive training and discussion workshop for people who find themselves working withand supporting asylum seekers and refugees in West London. To build knowledge and practice with hands-on staff, leaders and volunteers in public, voluntary or community services and support.

If you know people who speak Tamil, Dari/Farsi, Pashtu, Somali, Tigrinyan, Amharic, Russian, many other African languages they are probably refugees/asylum-seekers. People who speak Chinese, Arabic, or anyone arriving from Asia, Africa in the past 3 years may well be refugees/asylum-seekers.

• Could you enable and support the voluntary and community sector in Hounslow and Ealing to work towards improving the housing situation for low income, disadvantaged and BAMER residents?
Ealing CVS is looking for a Development and Campaigns Officer to support voluntary and community groups in improving housing provision and conditions for disadvantaged residents or BAMER residents in Ealing and Hounslow.
The role will involve developing campaign and leadership training, collaborating with partner organisations and policy makers to identify housing campaigns and researching housing policy issues and changes in legislation.
The successful applicant will also need to manage relationships with a broad base of stakeholders and be able to maintain effective partnerships with local public sector bodies and joint working between the sectors.
We are looking for someone who is: dynamic, a self-starter, able to work independently, able to think strategically and understands current housing issues faced by disadvantaged residents in Ealing and Hounslow.
Must be able to: coordinate regular community outreach sessions for disadvantaged and BAMER groups on local developments/current issues affecting the community and how they can get involved. A good communicator able to disseminate campaigning best practice, including case studies, through a variety of mediums, including the website, blog, and e bulletin.
The right person could come from a broad background including private sector and someone who enjoys challenges and problem solving.

Hounslow Citizens Advice AGM

You are invited to CAH’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 22nd January 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Our AGM will feature a 30 minutes presentation on scam awareness and the latest methods used by criminals and ways to avoid them. 
Les Jackson is a recently retired Metropolitan Police Sergeant and while in service over the last few years was the instigator of a programme of active scam awareness in the borough of Richmond. He was very successful in making people knowledgeable of what could and does happen. The presentation will cover deception at ATM machines, bogus callers and deliveries and what you can do to protect yourself.

The presentation will be followed by Q&A
