Building a Coalition Workshop, 11th October 17:00 – 20:00 at Springwest Academy

The aim of this workshop is to develop a coalition. We hope to have key stakeholders present who are keen to positively impact social integration in the Hounslow West area. Meet the Funder event

29th November – Meet the Funders. The All Ways Network is delighted to be organising a Meet the Funders event where small Muslim-led and non-Muslim led charities working within the diverse Muslim community in the UK, meet mainstream funders. The aim of this event is to boost opportunities for such small charities, especially working with the BAME community, to meet funders face to face and also the chance for funders to listen first-hand the needs of the ethnic minority communities across the UK. The event will be held at The ClothworkersÂ’ Hall, EC3R 7AH  between 10am – 1.30pm.

Job Vacancy: Integration Manager

Afghanistan and Central Asian Association - London
£29,869 a year

Key Purpose:
To ensure the effective running of the ESOL integration project in the Borough of Hounslow, Croydon and Lewisham. ESOL for Integration is a Big Lottery Funded project which will address the social issue of lack of integration, which leads to limited access to services, education, employment, leisure and social networks through the provision of English Language classes.
Hours per week:
35hpw including Saturdays
Summary: The post holder will have responsibility for the ESOL for Integration Project, coordinating and managing the Hounslow ESOL Integration Project as well as co-managing the Croydon and Lewisham Integration Projects and their staff alongside the Director. This includes ensuring best practice and, essentially, excellent project delivery in all areas. Experience of working with refugees and asylum seekers is desirable.
Key Result Areas: Outcomes expected from post holder:

  • Ensure target number of students are engaged in Hounslow, with oversight of Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Ensure students and potential students associated with the project are provided with an excellent learner experience and high quality teaching and learning. Focus on Hounslow with oversight of Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Offer clear managerial leadership to all staff and teachers involved and deploy and organise the team in a way that makes the most effective and efficient use of all team members.
  • Contribute to the effective monitoring and evaluation of the Hounslow Project, with oversight of Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Work towards the ESOL Accreditation to formalize ACAAÂ’s language provision and enable financial sustainability of the project beyond the lifetime of the grant.

Working with: The post holder will co-manage Croydon and Lewisham Integration Workers alongside the directors. They will also develop productive working relationships and ESOL Teachers and other staff within the organisation. In addition, he/she will also work productively with other stakeholders (i.e local community groups).
Main Activities:

  • Ensure target number of students are engaged in Hounslow, with oversight of Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Conducting and overseeing the projectÂ’s outreach facilities (telephone, email, social media) is a central part of the role, ensuring that target numbers of beneficiaries, as set out in the funding criteria, are met.
  • Setting up a referral mechanism for the project, and liaising with external agencies for referrals (i.e. Social Services, Violence against Women and Girls, Refuge Centres, Job Centre).
  • Ensure students and potential students associated with the project are provided with an excellent learner experience and high quality teaching and learning. Focus on Hounslow with oversight of Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Be responsible for the recruitment and supervision of ESOL Teachers for Hounslow, whilst overseeing recruitment of ESOL Teachers for Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of a programme of high quality teaching.
  • Conducting baseline assessments, then further assessments to track the progress of the beneficiaries. These assessments will need to be devised and conducted by the Integration Manager for Hounslow, and shared with Integration Workers to be conducted in Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Maximizing further learning opportunities for our students and facilitating the beneficiaryÂ’s progression to employment and/or further education.
  • Offer clear managerial leadership to all staff and teachers involved and deploy and organise the team in a way that makes the most effective and efficient use of all team members.
  • Lead on the recruitment, selection and induction of teachers and other relevant volunteers in the Hounslow project, whilst supporting Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Contribute to maintaining clear communication with staff by establishing systems for two-way communication.
  • Organise team meetings, set the agenda and ensure notes are taken. Undertake one-to-one meetings with tutors where appropriate.
  • Arrange cover for absent tutors.
  • Contribute to the effective monitoring and evaluation of the Hounslow Project, with oversight of Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Respond to feedback from the other Integration Workers, overseeing the progress data, and reporting back to the Director and the trustees with progress reports.
  • Ensure that the feedback loops are operational and the feedback is acted upon. The Integration Manager will co-approve the work of the Integration Workers in this matter, alongside the Director.
  • Produce Quarterly Newsletters on the Project, including information from Hounslow, Croydon and Lewisham.
  • Undertake weekly meetings with the Director to update on your work and evaluate progress.
  • Work towards the ESOL Accreditation to formalize ACAAÂ’s language provision and enable financial sustainability of the project beyond the lifetime of the grant.
  • Research potential ESOL Accreditation Providers and their criterion, organize meetings and determine the best provider for the ACAA at the beginning of employment.
  • Ensure that the ESOL Project in Hounslow, Lewisham and Croydon follow the accreditation criteria.
  • Apply for Accreditation for outcome before project end.
  • General
  • Contribute to the effective management and promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Work in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act and the ACAAÂ’s Safeguarding procedure. To lead on Health and Safety and safeguarding matters for the programme.
  • Work at all times in accordance with ACAA’s policies and procedures, using them consistently and appropriately in the management of the programme.

Local CIL applications – deadline for submission 23rd September

The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is the primary mechanism for collecting contributions from developments across Hounslow and there is £583,141.03  available to spend across the borough on community projects.
The deadline for project submissions is Sunday 23rd September.  Hounslow Council urge any groups wishing to submit community initiatives for funding consideration to do so before the deadline as they cannot accept applications after this date.

Tampon Tax Community Fund Open Today

The London Community Foundation are working with UK Community Foundations to deliver the Tampon Tax Community Fund in London.
The Tampon Tax Fund allocates funds generated from the VAT on sanitary products to projects that improve the lives of disadvantaged women and girls.

Themes

Through this fund we will support charities and community groups delivering projects that support women and girls to build skills and confidence, improve their health and wellbeing, and build social networks. Within this context applicants will need to demonstrate how they meet one or more of the following objectives:

  • Building skills and confidence
  • Improving health and well-being
  • Building social networks

Eligibility

Organisations operating in any London Borough are able to apply with the exception of Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham or the City of London. This is because East End Community Foundation are accepting applications from organisations working within those boroughs and groups should apply through them.

Grant size

Grants of between £5,000-£10,000 are available.

Train to be a Help Your Health Hounslow Community Health Champion

Health Champions are people who, with relevant and free training and support, transform the health and well-being of their friends, families, colleagues and communities.  Health Champions share essential information and health messages to enable others to enjoy healthier lives.  Hounslow Health Champions are part of the new Help Your Health programme – designed to reduce health inequalities in Hounslow through a programme of information, training and volunteering.
This workshop will help you to:

  • Understand how effective communication can support health messages
  • Know how to promote improvements in health and well-being to individuals
  • Understand the impact of change on improving an individualÂ’s health and well being

The 2 days cover the Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) Level 2 Award in Understanding Health Improvement.  To receive the qualification you will have the opportunity to sit a simple test at the end of the 2nd day – this consists of 30 multiple choice questions over 45 minutes.
You are invited to attend this two day training programme if you want to know how to improve health standards within your community and you work, volunteer, live or are involved with a community organisation in Hounslow.

Hounslow Dementia Alliance Group- Scoping workshop

Over the next year LB Hounslow have key aspirations of delivering:

  • A partnership strategy is developed and delivered.
  • A Business Operating model for a dementia service is delivered
  • Upgrade the quality of care and access to services.
  • Increase awareness and champion business improvement to become a dementia friendly borough (Hounslow Dementia Alliance) .
  • Develop and implement a training strategy across Hounslow and its partners.
  • That Dementia friends and champions are created across Hounslow and its partners (Hounslow Dementia Friend Programme)
  • Implement the ‘HerbertÂ’ Protocol .
  • That awareness and training are rolled out across Hounslow and its partners.
  • Equal access to diagnosis for everyone.

As you can imagine, there is an astronomical amount of work to be done to meet our ambitions. We want our Dementia Service to be inclusive and nurtured by all. Dementia knows no boundaries and therefore everyone has a part to play in raising the awareness and  taking measures in providing the best services and support. By standing united as an organisations, partners and a community, Hounslow will trail blaze putting the residents of Hounslow living with Dementia firmly at the heart of how services are delivered.
With the above in mind. I would like to take to opportunity to invite you to this workshop which will be focused on scoping out Hounslow Dementia Alliance Group . the Hounslow Dementia Alliance Group (‘’HDAG’’) will work towards:

  • taking proactive steps to becoming a Dementia Friendly Borough through the Hounslow Dementia Friend Programme
  • Raising the awareness of dementia across LB Hounslow
  • Putting the people at the heart of what we do
  • Aligning Hounslow Alliance Group to a Partnership Dementia Strategy

Setting up a Dementia Action Alliance is a great way for a community to work together to become more dementia friendly. We look for Hounslow Alliance to be led by a steering group which will draw up a plan of the actions needed and monitor progress.  We aim to have a mix of members to ensure that actions agreed and carried out by the group are collaborative and inclusive of all.
