Cranford Stronger Together Steering Group: vacancy for a new Chair

Cranford Stronger Together is a consortium of projects and services operating in the Cranford Ward of the London Borough of Hounslow that aims to support ‘struggling’ residents, particularly those from the Meadows and Beavers Lane Estates, to improve their individual wellbeing and the community’s resilience.
A vacancy has arisen for a new Chair of the group.
Ideally you will have experience of:
• Community development and/or wellbeing promotion
• Social innovation is desirable.
• Being the Chair of an organisation .
The role of the Chair is to:
• To Chair during Steering Group meetings, encouraging an atmosphere of inclusion and participation;
• To represent the Steering group and, where necessary, report up to the borough’s local strategic partnership, the Hounslow Together Board;
• To promote the work of the project to relevant, external bodies and funders;
• To input in the development and review of meeting agendas and papers;
• To mediate between members should any conflicts arise.

Increasing Voluntary Sector Participation in Health Transformation

NHS England and NCVO are keen to support voluntary organisations around England to have a greater role in delivering the transformations that are envisaged through STPs and accountable care systems.
This will require:
– Public sector bodies to understand and be able to engage with the full range of ways that the voluntary sector can contribute strategically to health and wellbeing transformation – not least in terms of prevention, community
involvement and equalities agendas
– Voluntary organisations to be well organised at STP geographical footprint level and have the necessary relationships to engage in this way.
Our sense of the picture around the country is that some STPs have gone further towards this than others. This can be because of cultural and structural biases within the NHS, compounded by financial and capacity challenges, and some of it could be the result of a diverse and poorly coordinated or resourced voluntary sector, particularly at the geographical areas covered by STPs.
The project aims to understand and overcome these, and other challenges, by facilitating better collaborative and governance approaches within the STP that include the voluntary sector.

Hounslow Council Grants

The Community Partnerships Unit offers grants to organisations and projects, to help us to achieve the aims of the council’s Thriving Communities and VCSE Sector Strategy.  Decisions on funding are made by the Lead Member for Finance and Engagement in consultation with members of the Council’s Community Investment Advisory Panel.

Hounslow Community Grant

The Hounslow Community Grant provides funding of up to £15,000 for voluntary and community sector projects or services that can show a clear benefit to Hounslow residents and help to achieve our strategic outcomes. 18 organisations were allocated funding in Round 1 with grants ranging from £3,000 to £15,000.
Following a recent review of our funding criteria Round 2 is now open.  The closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon on Monday 2 October 2017.  The decision on funding allocations will be made at the 13 November meeting of the Community Investment Advisory Panel.

Small grants programme

The small grants programme provides grants of up to £500 to support local community events or activities across the borough. This could include street parties, local events or activities for residents to help prevent social isolation, or help neighbours to get to know one another better.
Round 3 is now open.  The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 9 October 2017.  The decision on funding allocations will be made at the 13 November meeting of the Community Investment Advisory Panel.
The deadline for Round 4 applications will be 12 noon on Friday 26 January 2018 (final round in 2017-18)

Community Impact Fund

The Community Impact Fund provides grants of up to £1,000 to support local community events or activities across the borough that benefit Hounslow Housing Tenants and Leaseholders. This could include street parties, local events or activities for residents to help prevent social isolation, or help neighbours to get to know one another better.
Round 2 will open for applications at the end of September 2017. The exact date will be published here

Come for a stroll, chat and coffee with us in a local park

Do you know someone who would benefit from a stroll in the park, a chat and a cuppa? Lets Go Outside and Learn CIC is  encouraging local people at risk of isolation to participate in free activities in four parks in Hounslow. The project aims to raise awareness of the health benefits of being  outdoors, encourage friendship and highlight other opportunities available.  All the walks have themes and over the next few weeks include mindfulness, butterflies and bees, craft activities and storytelling. All sessions are free with no need to book, but we ask participants to register when they attend. We are also recruiting volunteer “Nature Buddies” to support the project and participants.

Hounslow VCS Efficiency and Effectiveness Survey

The final report on the Hounslow VCS Efficiency and Effectiveness Survey carried out jointly by HVSSS, HCN and Hounslow CPU has been produced.
It contains a lot of interesting information especially in the context of future reduced VCS grants in Hounslow as well as information on external funding raised by Hounslow VCS groups, income generation, use of volunteers and the ‘value of volunteer time to Hounslow’.

£300,000 in Sportivate Funding Now Available

Your chance to support the next generation of physically active Londoners
Applications open until 23 August 2017.
Sportivate is a £56 million Lottery funded London 2012 legacy project that gives 11-25 year olds the chance to discover a sport that they haven’t tried before through sessions delivered across six to eight weeks.
