Red Alert (Level 4) Weather Warning for Extreme Heat – National Emergency Declared – update
Published on: 18 July 2022
The information below provides the latest update from the GLA for London (as of yesterday afternoon, shared VCSEPÂ’s current heatwave Slack channel).
Cool spaces
Cool Spaces are indoor spaces and outdoor areas where Londoners can take respite on hot days. These are for all Londoners and the map of where they are can be found here: Cool Spaces
Day centres (new update)
Day centres for people experiencing homelessness are set up to provide daytime shelter, basic facilities and advice and support with housing and related issues. Facilities have traditionally included hot drinks (focus now presumably being cool drinks), food, showers, laundry and internet and are available to people who are rough sleeping or homeless. Day centres often offer various types of support under one roof, including casework and advice, education, training and employment services, and referral and access to health services such as a nurse. Day centres have also been advised to hand out sun cream, and the majority of day centres have extended their opening hours and are open to all homeless. The map of Day Centres can be found here: Â London Map | Atlas
