Hounslow Women and Girls Funding 2016 Guidance and Criteria
Published on: 18 July 2016
The Hounslow Public Health and Leisure Team has made available funding for a new round of Health & Wellbeing Grants for women and girls projects starting in September 2016. The following funding amounts will be available to clubs and local voluntary and community organisations for initiatives/ services for London Borough of Hounslow residents:
- Grants of between £500 to £2000 per club/organisation/group (total available for project £35,000)
The funding aims to give women and girls access to free or subsidised coaching in a range of sports and physical activities. This funding offers a new window of opportunity for successful projects to deliver sessions and increase physical activity in Hounslow.
According to the latest Sport England Active People Survey, 43.3% of females aged 14-25 take part in physical activity once a week, considerably less than males at 67.6%. Analysing the data further shows that just 20.9% of the female population of London exercise 3 or more times per week, which is almost half as many as males at 40.3%.
Female participation in sport and physical activity is growing and there is a continuing need to understand how to create experiences that ensure that women continue to see that sport and physical activity can meet their needs.
Funding is available for traditional sports and physical activities as well as less traditional physical activities which are appealing to women and girls. The grants may be used to support longstanding projects and their core running costs. They may also be used to meet new, emerging community needs and to respond to innovative new proposals from a variety of organisations.
This funding will directly support the overall goal of the Health and Wellbeing board in reducing the number of inactive residents in the borough.
