Building Community Resilience in Ealing – Responding to Emergencies Together

A massive thank you to all who participated and joined our Community Resilience Project – Session Two – yesterday, Wednesday 6th November.  The event was titled Responding to Emergencies, and was held at St John’s Parish Centre in Southall.  We had nothing but positive vibes all day! We couldn’t have made this happen without you. There were contributions from London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, The Army, Rapid Response Team and Scottish and Southern Electricity. Here are some photos of the success of the day which is clear to see. There was also food to be had after the event.

Why are we doing this?

We know that Ealing’s resilience to emergencies is reliant on everyone working together.

Stronger connections are crucial to ensuring that emergencies are handled in the best way possible:

· To enhance collaboration with the community, the council and emergency response organisations in cases of major emergencies

· To create community focused plans to effectively prepare, respond to, and recover from major emergencies

· To ensure that the voices and perspectives of the community are central to local emergency planning

We are happy to announce applications are now open for the third and final round of the Crane Valley Grant Programme’s Community Fund. The Crane Valley Community Fund offers grants of up to £3,000 to charitable and community groups to deliver projects that support Thames Water’s ‘Smarter Water Catchment Initiative’, and aims to deliver a range of environmental and associated community benefits throughout the Crane Valley. The grant can cover such costs as field equipment and activities, PPE, operational services and training, promotional materials, site infrastructure and events. Imperial College London and the Youth Involvement and Engagement Lab would like to invite you to a World AIDS Day seminar to discuss the results of a groundbreaking study that investigated the factors influencing access to HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) among Black women in England.

Despite advancements in HIV prevention, disparities persist in PrEP awareness and accessibility within this community. This event aims to shed light on the systemic, social, and personal barriers that affect Black women’s access and uptake of PrEP, providing valuable learnings for healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community advocates. More specifically, we will uncover and discuss the importance of involving Black women in the decision-making process to design and pilot interventions that aim to address the barriers to PrEP access.

• In-Depth Findings: Explore the key barriers identified in the study, including healthcare accessibility, cultural perceptions, stigma, and informational gaps.
• Actionable Strategies: Learn about recommendations to enhance PrEP access and awareness among Black women.
