Rise Up Leadership programme
We are open for recruitment for the second round of our Rise Up Leadership Programme, with applications being taking until 9am on Monday 07th February. Rise Up is:
- Funded by the Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit and aimed at developing the skills, knowledge and networks of frontline youth practitioners in London who are working with young people at risk of violence
- Open to members and non-members of London Youth (so your networks 100% applicable for this!)
- Designed to be interactive and accessible. We are particularly interested in applications from those without formal qualifications in youth work and who have not previously held leadership positions.
- An intensive programme, involving 20+ weeks of specialist training, coaching and mentoring. (Sessions will take place both online and in-person.) Youth practioners will also attend group reflective sessions facilitated by a Clinical Psychologist, providing therapeutic support to participants and a space to reflect on their learning and experiences. Upon completion of the programme, participants will join a network of Rise Up Alumni and be able to apply for funding to run community initiatives.
Heres a short, powerful film with reflections from the first cohort of participants. And, we also have a taster session on the 04th February for anyone interested in this opportunity.

Home-Start Richmond, Kingston & Hounslow launch #BehindTheMask campaign with Bandicoot and ITV’s The Masked Singer to encourage struggling parents to ask for help
Parents across Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow will be encouraged to take off the mask and talk about the reality of raising children particularly during the pandemic when The Masked Singer airs on ITV for its third series.
Local family charity Home-Start Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow is partnering with the prime-time TV show and social media phenomenon, to launch a Behind The Mask social media campaign.
Home-Start UK has been chosen alongside NSPCC and AdoptionUK as one of three charity partners supported by the popular Saturday night TV show, which features guesswork, theatrics, singers in disguise and larger than life performances.
Home-Start Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow is one of more than 180 Home-Starts across the UK which is teaming up as part of the exciting partnership.
Sarah Villegas, Marketing Lead, of Home-Start Richmond, Kingston & Hounslow said: We are absolutely delighted to be chosen as one of three charity partners with ITVs The Masked Singer. With the support of Bandicoot and ITV, Home-Start wants to begin a massive online conversation to encourage families who are struggling, for whatever reason, to come out from behind the mask and ask for help if they are going through tough times.
Research shows parents still feel a huge stigma around asking for help, with nearly half of all UK parents admitting they always or often feel ashamed of asking for support, especially when there are mental health concerns. Our new campaign encourages parents and caregivers to share some of the day to day funny, memorable and challenging things which happen to all of us as part of being a parent with the hashtag #BehindTheMask.
Parenting is a tough enough job as it is, but with the added anxiety and stresses of Covid lockdowns, financial pressures, health-related concerns and for some, bereavements, it has been a really difficult couple of years for families. We hope The Masked Singer provides some much needed light relief but also starts an all-important conversation about seeking help and where to go for help if it is needed. The need is growing as more families than ever before are finding they need support.
During The Masked Singer show, produced by Bandicoot Scotland, part of Argonon, Home-Starts across the UK will encourage families to open up about the reality of parenting and also encourage others to check in with a family member, neighbour, work colleague or friend, to see how they are doing and if they need help.
Parents will be encouraged to share their honest, unfiltered parenting experiences on social media using the hashtag #BehindTheMask.
Bandicoot MD Derek McLean and Creative Director Daniel Nettleton said: We are delighted to partner with ITV to offer a platform for Home-Start to reach our loyal army of fans. Weve got the licence to be even more bonkers than ever before with a new series packed with surprising names and musical mayhem.
Home-Start UK stands alongside families to offer compassionate, non-judgemental support on a wide range of issues including postnatal depression, bereavement, coping with twins, loneliness, coping with a child or parent with disabilities and a range of support with finances.
With a network of more than 10,000 trained volunteers at more than 180 Home-Starts across the UK, last year, the charity supported around 57,000 children in 26,000 families.
The Masked Singer has become a national obsession and saw a peak of 10m viewers earlier this year all trying to figure out whos that behind the mask. Launching on January 1st, Joel Dommett once again hosts the third series with Davina McCall, Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan heading back to their detective chairs as the guessing game begins all over again.

About this role:
Kingston Hospital, Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare Trust and Your Healthcare are commitment to working in partnership with patients, families, and carer in a transparent and open way in the development of safer services for everyone. Our three organisations are working together to recruit Patient Safety Partners (PSPs). PSPs will take part in committees with a patient safety, risk, and quality remit. Their role is to reflect the voice and needs of people who use hospital and community-based health services including patients, family members, carers and the public. PSPs will be actively involved in the design of safer healthcare at all levels across our three organisations.
What will I be doing:
As a Patient Safety Partner, you will join one or more governance committees concerned with patient safety, risk and quality. The governance of our local health services is under review but at present there are four committees. Two concerned with hospital-based services at Kingston and two focused on services delivered to communities across Kingston, Richmond and Hounslow. Your role will be to:
– Bring the voice and needs of patients, families, carers and the public, into committees in a way that provides appropriate challenge and fosters learning and change
– Consider complex issues affecting patient safety across the Trust that directly inform relevant Trust strategy and policy
– Interact with other PSPs and staff in a large multi-professional meeting format
– Be prepared to put forward ideas of how PSPs can support the improvement of patient safety across all three organisations and work with staff to put these in place.
Other essential tasks:
– Receive and read meeting papers prior to attending (approx. half a day)
– Attend a meeting, currently virtual every other month (approx. 2hrs)
– Attend a pre meet and post-meeting de-brief with the Head of Patient Risk & Safety (approx. 1hr)
– Maintain the strict confidentiality of the meeting, its members and content at all times both pre, during and post meetings.
As the role develops there will be the opportunity to get involved in other activities to support patient safety, for example investigating incidents.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for a person who has the resilience to listen to complex and sometimes challenging information and make rational and objective decisions that will represent the needs and interests of patients, and ultimately improve the quality of patient care.
You will need to have the time to read through meeting papers in advance of the meetings and come ready with comments or questions that will aid the group to think through the patient perspective.
You will need to have an awareness of the range of experiences and perspectives that different people within our communities might have. For example, what you hear might mean for people that find it difficult to access health services because of socio-economic issues, existing health conditions or accessibility needs for example.
This person will also have the confidence to sit alongside senior personnel from across the Trust including Governors, the Chairman of the Board and Non-Executive Directors, doctors and support staff and treat everyone as an equal partner in the decision-making of the group.
What Skills, Knowledge and Experience are helpful in this role?
· Understanding of and a broad interest in patient safety
· Able to communicate well in writing and comprehend complex reports
· Able to understand and evaluate a range of information and evidence
