Home-Start
Home-Start provides a vital lifeline for local families with children under five. At the heart of our local charity are the parent volunteers who give their time to help other parents who are struggling to cope. They support them to manage their own issues as well as helping their pre-school children to be ready for nursery and school. Last year we helped 324 vulnerable families and over 615 children in the boroughs of Hounslow, Richmond and Kingston; most being referred by Health Visitors and other professionals. Our trained volunteers support parents with difficulties such as mental health, family breakdown, domestic abuse, bereavement, disability or a combination of factors that can affect their children’s welfare. Please call us if you would like any more information on 020 8577 9552 (Hounslow office) 020 8487 8500 (East Sheen office) or visit www.homestart-rkh.org.uk .
At the moment, we are particularly looking for parents from Hounslow Borough.  If you have some free time next term, and you are a parent or grandparent, you could help other families with pre-school children.  Home-Start is offering a free course to train you to be a home-visiting volunteer, supporting families with difficulties such as post-natal illness, bereavement or disability. The course will run in Hounslow 9.30am-2.30pm, on Thursday 6th , Thursday 13th, Wednesday 19th, Thursday 20th, Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th June and Wed 3rd July. Training can be accredited to NVQ 1 or 2 (optional). After the course, you would visit a family for 2-3 hours once a week. For more information, please contact Angie Ahmed 020 8487 8500 info@homestart-rkh.org.uk.
Could a credit union help you?
Credit unions are member-owned community savings and loans providers. They offer financial services to people who may not be able to access ordinary bank products.
Disability Network Hounslow invites you to hear a talk by Mukesh Malhotra, Chair of Thamesbank Credit Union, about the advantages of credit union accounts.
The meeting is on Saturday 6 April, 2 pm at the Star Centre, 63-65 Bell Road, Hounslow TW3 3NX. Everyone is welcome, and refreshments will be available.
Atul Pathak Community Awards
A request for applications for the Sixth Atul Pathak Community Awards
On behalf of Appt Corporation, I am writing to invite you to recommend applicants on how to apply for the Sixth Atul Pathak Community Awards to local charities or community groups working in your ward and borough. The aim of the Community Awards is to support and recognise the work of those who give so much to their communities. If you know of any such groups, please do recommend this to them so that they can apply.
The successful applicants will be given their awards in the House of Commons at an event in June.
The Community Awards are run through Appt Corporation, which co-owns and runs 37 McDonald’s restaurants located across London and Berkshire, employing over 3,000 staff. The Awards are a well-deserved opportunity to celebrate the work of local charities and community groups. In addition to winners receiving a grant of up to £3,000 they will also be able to benefit from a year-long partnership with their local Appt Corporation-run McDonald’s restaurant.
At Appt Corporation we believe that operating a business and being socially responsible are inseparable. We see it as our duty to give something back to the communities we have been building strong relationships with over the years.
As a councillor in one of the boroughs in which we operate, you will be only too aware of the many groups working in your community that could benefit from a Community Award and what it entails. We would be grateful if you would pass on details of the Awards to any local charity or group you think may benefit. Details are available from the Appt Corporation website at:Â https://www.apptcorp.com/community-awards/
