Hounslow Community Grant and Small Grants Programme

Hounslow Community Grant

The Hounslow Community Grant provides funding of up to £15,000 for voluntary and community sector projects or services that can show a clear benefit to Hounslow residents and help to achieve our key outcomes.  Round 1 of the 2018-19 Hounslow Community Grant is now open with a closing date for application of 22 January 2018.  A decision on allocations will be taken by the Lead Member for Finance and Engagement on 26 February 2018 following discussion at the Community Investment Advisory Panel.

Small grants programme

The small grants programme provides grants of up to £500 to support local community events or activities across the borough. This could include street parties, local events or activities for residents to help prevent social isolation, or help neighbours to get to know one another better.
Round 4 is now open. This is the final round for 2017/18.  The closing date for applications is midday Friday 26 January 2018.
The decision on funding allocations will be made at the 26 February meeting of the Community Investment Advisory Panel.

VOLUNTEERING GRANTS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF YOUNG PEOPLE

In partnership with Thrive LDN and the #iWill Fund, Team London are offering grants of £5,000 – £10,000 to community groups, small charities and voluntary sector organisations to run projects which encourage young Londoners to volunteer or take part in social action.
The projects can focus on any area of volunteering or social action such as sports, arts, media, inter-generational, environment or music, but should also encourage good mental health and wellbeing. The majority of young participants will be new to volunteering and come from groups that are disproportionately affected by mental health, such as those within the criminal justice system or young refugees or asylum seekers.
The closing date for applications is 5 January 2018.

Funding Opportunities – Cohesion

  1. ISD/Google

Google.org and ISD have partnered to deliver a £1m innovation fund to counter hate and extremism in the UK. The fund will support innovative projects on and offline that seek to disrupt, undermine, counter or provide positive alternatives to hate and extremism.
Throughout 2018, the fund will disburse grants of between £2,000 and £200,000 to campaign groups, civil society organisations, technology developers, educators, young people working with their youth centres, academic institutions or consortia of these organisations or groups.
ISD will provide training and skills support to awardees where necessary, as well as a robust evaluation framework to measure impact.
The funds will be disbursed through two rounds of grant giving. Round One is open for applications from 14th November 2017 and closes for applications 5th January 2018. Round Two will open mid-April/May 2018, with details the application submission dates to be shared early next year.

  1. Mayor of London

 
The Mayor’s new ‘Citizen Led Engagement Programme’ is going to deliver four community-based engagement projects that build relationships and develop civic leadership in communities that currently do not have a voice in City Hall. The programme will be resourced with an £80,000 fund to train 50 community leads and engage 400 participants through the four pilots. We are inviting community organisations to bid for the fund, and those awarded will co-produce an engagement programme with citizens and GLA officers that is focused on social integration.
 
We will also offer training in community development through citizen inquiry for 15 community organisations to prepare them to bid for the funding.
 
Historically some communities have been less well represented, and consequently their voices less heard. The community engagement team has identified the following gaps in City HallÂ’s community relationships:
 

  • Young Black men
  • BAME Older People (65+)
  • Homeless people and rough sleepers
  • Gypsy, Roma and Traveller groups
  • The Somali communities
  • Eastern European communities (especially Romanian and Bulgarian communities)

Change of use of Montague Hall from a public hall to an adult substance misuse recovery service

A drug and alcohol support service has specific needs in terms of a building. Confidentiality and exclusive access is paramount meaning a shared premises is not practical. The building also needs to be easily accessible through public transport and in a central location. The internal room space needed includes as an absolute minimum two group rooms, five one to one appointment rooms, five clinical rooms, toilets and staff office space. Alternative properties to fit the minimum specification were reviewed in late 2016. The review demonstrated the lack of either affordable or suitable alternative space and no alternative was identified.
After reviewing the options, we are therefore proposing that the service could be relocated in to the London Borough of Hounslow building, Montague Hall. The building is a short walk from the current premises and whilst it is smaller, it will offer the savings that will allow this essential service to operate. In total, it is expected that an annual saving of circa 150k would result from this move, which would otherwise have to be removed from frontline services.
Montague Hall is a Public Hall, meaning it is available for community use, though it is primarily occupied by Age UK Hounslow. Age UK Hounslow will be relocating to Southville Community Centre by the 1st February 2018 where they will be able to offer many of the other community groups that currently use Montague Hall, an alternative space. Due to service needs, if the substance misuse treatment service were to relocate to Montague Hall, it would then have to be closed as a Public Hall, meaning there would be no opportunity for other community groups to utilise this space.
Every effort would be made to minimise any negative impact related to this proposal. We value your views and will ensure they are considered carefully before any further decisions are made.

Successful HCN Annual Conference


HCN held a well attended Annual Conference recently in Isleworth Public Hall.
Councillor Theo Dennison talked about the important role of the VCS in the borough and offered some insight into how the sector was viewed by the council. He stressed that the council was not always aware of the important contribution of the VCS.

Register with Volunteering Hounslow

For support recruiting and retaining volunteers, sign up to the council-funded, free volunteer brokerage service Volunteering Hounslow. This service offers an online platform to post your opportunities, to invite registered volunteers to apply and to accept volunteer applications. It supports over 2,500 volunteers and nearly 300 organisations to enable volunteering. They also provide training, outreach, 1-to-1 advice surgeries and host events. To register and find out more…
