Community Resilience – Ealing
Published on: 30 April 2026
What is Community Resilience?
Community Resilience refers to the collective capacity of humans within a physical place, such as a street, neighbourhood, or city, to respond and adapt to disturbances and emergencies that affect the area. This could be unexpected incidences like flooding, fire and illness outbreaks or expected incidences like heat waves, cost of living, or very cold winters.
Why is Community Resilience important?
Community resilience is the ability of a community to recover from a disaster or be prepared in the face of a new, ongoing hardship. Disasters and other threats are becoming increasingly common, especially those caused by climate change, increasing globalisation, and urbanisation. And as communities themselves continue to grow, both in size and complexity, the risk to those communities increases. Community Resilience means that communities are better prepared to prevent or respond to ‘shocks’ that come their way.
Why is the Voluntary Sector integral to Community Resilience?
Voluntary Sector Organisations are critical to our society, offering help, hope, and support where and when it is needed most. Ealing Voluntary Sector Organisations work shoulder to shoulder with Ealing residents daily and are acutely aware of not only the needs and challenges within the borough, but also the knowledge, skills and resources that can weather any incidents that affect the borough.
How can we support Community organisations?
At EHCVS, we are supporting VCO’s to develop their Emergency Plans.
These plans will cover:
- How to respond to emergencies and shocks that are experienced by your organisation
- Steps to prepare and mitigate for shocks that could affect your organisation
- Strengthen the organisations operations and governance to continue following the effects of incidents
- Secure business continuity for organisations to continue operating as soon as possible following incidents or issues experienced.
- What your organisation can do for the local community in times of need
