Cancer Awareness Project with MacMillan
Published on: 1 June 2023
From 2024 to 2025, the Cancer Awareness Project worked to reduce inequality by making cancer information, awareness and support more accessible within local communities. Through multilingual outreach, community champions, events and campaigns, the project helped build trust, improve understanding and support earlier engagement with services. It was especially valuable where stigma, distance from services or lack of culturally relevant communication could create barriers to diagnosis and care.
A major strength of the project was its community-based approach. By working through local champions and trusted community settings, it brought important health messages into places where people already gathered and felt comfortable.
Impact:
- 199 outreach interventions and 164 community events in 2023/24.
- 95 multilingual cancer champions trained in 2024/25.
- 3,837 residents reached through 116 community events in 2024/25.
