Date for your diary – Prevent and Counter Extremism Event. 13th March 2018.
As part of its ongoing commitment to educating and raising awareness of the dangers of extremism Hounslow Council CPU have commissioned Parent Zone (PZ)* to host a ‘Resilient Families Event’ aimed at practitioners.
The aim of the PZ project is to focus on young people’s ability to respond well to challenges they face online; enabling them to become smart and responsible users of digital technology. This would give young people the critical thinking skills they need to challenge what they see online; identify reliable and unreliable sources of information; and know what to do if they need help. It is designed to safeguard young people from potentially harmful information or views presented on the internet and through social networking sites and is good to use as part of safeguarding measures.
The event will be taking place on the 13th March 2018 between 0900am and 1230hrs followed by a networking lunch. This is being held at The Civic Centre, Lampton Road, Hounslow in the Blue Zone.
Who should attend? The PZ event content will be invaluable to first line staff, in particular foster care team/ foster carers, youth workers and social workers to help deliver the necessary skills and confidence to keep children safe in the digital world.
So what is Digital Resilience? Digital resilience – offers tangible support on line to young people, to cope with setbacks, and gain back their sense of worth, when they experience something difficult and challenging while online. We suggest that ‘a resilient child is able to navigate successfully the online world’s potential risks, they have developed their own sense of right and wrong, and have the skills to make positive decisions about their life online.’ Young people need to be able to respond positively and deal with risks they encounter online.
This is a by invitation only event and places are limited. Therefore places will be allocated on a first responder basis. Therefore if you would like to attend please could you register via Eventbrite.
