Join us to celebrate International Women’s Day 2021
International Women’s Day, on Monday 8 March is an annual celebration which recognises and showcases the achievements of women world over. In recognition of this day, Hounslow Council would like to invite you to a virtual event on Wednesday 10 March 2021.
This year’s theme is #ChooseToChallenge and the event aims to help raise awareness of the impact of COVID-19 on women in the community along with exploring issues around domestic violence, particularly during the pandemic.
Cllr Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Communities and Climate Emergency said: “ We are proud to support International Women’s Day, a day that brings together women from all continents, often divided by national boundaries and ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences.
“As a Council we challenge inequality and gender bias, working towards a future where every woman’s voice, role, and contribution are visible and valued – so let’s all choose to challenge.
“We have a fantastic line up of speakers for the event and I would like to invite you all to join in and hear from these inspirational women.”
Topics at the event will range from the impact of COVID-19 on women in the borough to women in sport along with readings from Monuments, an anthology written by Hounslow Action for Youth. There will also be a Q&A for attendees to ask questions and engage with the panellists.
Panellists include Aldona Zywicka-Thornton, Hounslow Parent/Carer Forum, Oonah Lacey, a volunteer at food banks across the borough and Natalie Sexton, a Harlequin coach and Hounslow resident.
