Katie Allen is the founder of Food for Thought Heathfield CIC, a not for profit project that offers surplus food to the local community. Launched during the Covid-19 pandemic, the volunteer team operates a pop up market stall on Heathfield Recreation Ground, redistributing surplus food that otherwise would have ended up as waste. Katie is passionate about ensuring we don’t waste edible food, making sure that everybody has access to take what they need, looking after themselves, family and friends while reducing carbon footprint. Many have been impacted by Covid-19 and Katie provides a comfortable, community space for people to come together and helps with onward signposting to support where needed. The stall is a continuation of her desire to reuse and recycle, working full time as an online reseller of clothing and accessories. She has a background in communications having worked as a Senior Communications Officer in the NHS and is recognised for her events planning, media handling and social media.
