Working West London

This is a new project to help refugees gain employment and build their careers based on their existing skills.

The project aims to make a substantial difference to participants lives, by helping them obtain employment, gain a sense of confidence and feel recognition for their contribution to the work market.

The project started in April 2017 and runs until December 2019.

It is based in 7 West London boroughs Brent, Barnet, Hounslow, Harrow, Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing, Hillingdon.

Working West London is all about supporting refugees groups into meaningful and sustainable employment, following a whole-person approach to personal and skills development; recognising existing skills and experience so that people can return to work in jobs and professions that they had previously trained in, thus supporting job sustainability.

Aim of the project:

– to provide targeted support to address those complex barriers faced by working age unemployed and economically inactive refugees (and certain other groups) in seeking and obtaining employment.

Outcomes of the project:

-Participants feel supported to manage their barriers to work

-Participants feel empowered to sustain their employment, developing the confidence to independently apply for jobs when faced with progression opportunities

-Employers better understand refugee employment immigration rules, see the value in workforce diversity and are more empathetic towards refugees and open to giving them employment

Building a Stronger Britain Together (BSBT) Programme

You will be pleased to hear that the In-kind stream of the Building a Stronger Britain Together programme has reopened.
The Building a Stronger Britain Together (BSBT) programme was set up to support civil society and community organisations who work to create more resilient communities, stand up to extremism in all its forms and offer vulnerable individuals a positive alternative.
In-kind support can provide valuable assistance focused upon improving the reach of organisations such as your own; this could take the form of technical assistance to improve your website, training for your staff on social media or, perhaps, capacity building work to amplify your voice or broaden its reach.
There is no closing date for applications, funds are limited and we would therefore encourage early applications.
At this present time, the grant funding for the programme remains closed.

Did you know that there is an online Family Services Directory which provides details of local childcare and other services and activities to support families with children aged 0-19 years?

Whether you are a parent, carer, or a professional working with families, the London Borough of Hounslow Family Services Directory is just a click away from a range of information including:

Ofsted registered childcare e.g. pre-schools, day nurseries and childminders
Free childcare and early learning for 2, 3 and 4 year olds
Starting school nursery
Children’s Centres activities such as baby massage, stay and play sessions, health clinics
Youth clubs, activities and holiday playschemes
Signposting to support services such as counselling, parenting support etc.

Hounslow Active Spaces

Hounslow Active Spaces is an exciting new project which aims to promote the benefits of outdoor play and physical activity on health and wellbeing. Multi award winning architects LUC have been appointed to develop a new playground design for the refurbishment of St Dunstanâ™s Park (Feltham West) , Redlees Park (Isleworth) , Hawthorn Hatch (Syon) and Carville Hall North (Brentford). There are a range of public engagement events and an online questionnaire for local residents to give us their views:

Love London Working

Love London Working is an ESF funded programme that supports unemployed London residents into work.
We offer support to customers in many ways:

Employability support: Each person registered with Love London Working is allocated an Employment Support Officer who is there to provide advice and guidance to help people into work.

We run sessions and workshops that help with CVs, application forms, selling yourself effectively and interview skills.
We also have facilities for supported job search sessions.

Computer skills and on-line learning: Those registered to Love London Working will have access to our full range of e-learning courses which include; computer basics, health and safety in the work place, manual handling, employability on-line, ECDL and a whole lot more.

Direct Access to job vacancies We work directly with employers from a variety of industries including Security, Construction, Care, Retail, Administration, Warehousing and Catering to gain direct access to their current and up-coming vacancies.

We will provide support with applications, access to relevant vocational training and interview practice before the real thing.
Some of the employers we have recently worked with include Lidl, Virgin Trains, and Metro Bank.

The project can work with anyone who meets the following eligibility:

Aged 16 +
Not currently in any paid work
Lives in a London borough
Has the right to work in the UK
Not currently on the DWP Work Programme

Good Growth Fund: supporting regeneration in London

The Good Growth Fund is Mayor Sadiq Khan’s new £70 million regeneration programme to support growth and community development in London.
Working with the London Economic Action Partnership (LEAP), the fund will support projects that are: inclusive, innovative and which demonstrate an outstanding approach to challenges faced across London.
Applications are now open to public, private and third sectors organisations (including London boroughs, community groups and charities) – to drive regeneration in their area.
You’ll also receive expert advice and support in regeneration and design as well as knowledge sharing opportunities.

What will we be funding?

We want to fund a range of projects and hope applicants respond creatively to our suggestions. This list is not exhaustive, and projects may deliver on one or more of the following actions:

Develop civic infrastructure
Back small business
Secure and create workspace
Drive innovation
Build skills and employability
Deliver community-led regeneration
Enhance public space
Share culture

(You can submit your expression of interest after this deadline, however, it will be reviewed in the next set of project appraisals next year).

Skills Sharing and Mentoring for Small Charities

The Small Charities Coalition free skills sharing and mentoring service aims to find you a supporter with the experience and knowledge you need.

“The free skills sharing and mentoring service aims to find you a supporter with the experience and knowledge you need. These supporters mentor, advise and guide you through a particular challenge in your work. This can be anything for a one-off phone call to find an answer to a governance related question, or a year-long relationship helping your charity build and implement a business plan.

How it works

Support either comes from a fellow small charity or from an individual volunteering their time and expertise.

Matches could simply be a one-off phone call or continue for a couple of years. They can be remote or face-to-face.
The service is based on charities helping and supporting each other. That is why we ask all charities receiving help to be willing to share their skills & knowledge with another small charity in return. Our free skills sharing and mentoring service allows you to get things done with the help and support of someone who has been there and done it before. The benefits of skills sharing and mentoring include:

Learning new skills
One-off or continued support to suit your needs
Building your confidence
Getting fresh perspectives on your organisations way of doing things
Building your contacts and networks
Reassurance that you are headed in the right direction

Is it right for you?
We try to make the service as flexible as possible to provide for charities in all circumstances. However, to take part, you need to be able to do the following:

Give it time
For your match to work, you will need to set-aside time. Do have a think if this is feasible before submitting your request.

Make use of the support
We endeavour to match you with the right person to advise you in your work. It is up to you to see the match through and put their advice into action.

Help one another
This service is based on the ethos of charities supporting charities. We ask that all charities taking part are willing to share their skills and knowledge with another small charity at some point.

The New Community Tool Kit

Are you interested in setting up a community group, or are already managing a group and need some help and support to make it more efficient?
The councils Community Partnerships Unit have put together a very useful Community Tool Kit which community groups can use to improve the way their organisation is managed and which will help them in the day-to-day running of their group.

The Community Toolkit will be formally launched on Wednesday 19 July 2017, from 10.00am 12.30pm at Montague Hall, Montague Road, Hounslow, TW3 1LD.

At this FREE event you can learn how to use the new Community Tool Kit and get top tips about running meetings, planning an event, applying for funding and other vital information that will help you to make your organisation more effective.
There will also be some free workshops where you can learn new skills and we will be providing free refreshments.
