A request for applications for the Sixth Atul Pathak Community Awards
On behalf of Appt Corporation, I am writing to invite you to recommend applicants on how to apply for the Sixth Atul Pathak Community Awards to local charities or community groups working in your ward and borough. The aim of the Community Awards is to support and recognise the work of those who give so much to their communities. If you know of any such groups, please do recommend this to them so that they can apply.
The successful applicants will be given their awards in the House of Commons at an event in June.
The Community Awards are run through Appt Corporation, which co-owns and runs 37 McDonalds restaurants located across London and Berkshire, employing over 3,000 staff. The Awards are a well-deserved opportunity to celebrate the work of local charities and community groups. In addition to winners receiving a grant of up to £3,000 they will also be able to benefit from a year-long partnership with their local Appt Corporation-run McDonalds restaurant.
At Appt Corporation we believe that operating a business and being socially responsible are inseparable. We see it as our duty to give something back to the communities we have been building strong relationships with over the years.
As a councillor in one of the boroughs in which we operate, you will be only too aware of the many groups working in your community that could benefit from a Community Award and what it entails. We would be grateful if you would pass on details of the Awards to any local charity or group you think may benefit. Details are available from the Appt Corporation website at: https://www.apptcorp.com/community-awards/

Voluntary and Community Survey 2019
Every year Hounslow Council’s Community Partnerships Unit carries out a survey of the voluntary and community (VCSE) sector in the Borough.
The survey is open to all charities, social enterprises, faith and community groups in Hounslow all of whom are now invited to take part.
We have the best information about the health of the VCSE sector and are best placed to provide the council with the best suggestions for improving the services that residents receive.
The results of the survey will enable the Community Partnerships Unit to assess the state of the sector and identify challenges being faced by our voluntary and community groups and organisations. The feedback that is received will shape how the council works with the VCSE sector over the next year.
The survey is now live and will be open until 27 May 2019.
Please take part in the survey by following this link
ESOL Classes for Migrants
‘ESOL for integration’ provides a dedicated ESOL class for migrants to help them integrate into British society, with 3 classes per week running in Hounslow. The aim of the project is to break down the largest obstacle to integration, employment and success in a new country: the language barrier. Unlike other ESOL classes, however, these have been tailored for migrants and address other aspects of integration such as the citizenship test, local culture, British politics and British history, and place a heavy focus on spoken English to enable migrants to thrive. We also provide regular employment and life skills workshops for the students and encourage progression to other courses and opportunities. All potential learners are welcome, regardless of nationality, status or English level.
The classes run in Hounslow at the following times and locations:
- Tuesday/Thursday, 10 am – 12 pm, at New London College, Sceptre House, 75-81 Staines Rd, Hounslow, TW3 3HW
- Saturday, 12.30 pm – 3.30 pm (women only), at Lampton School, Lampton Avenue, Hounslow, TW3 4EP
If anyone is interested or would like to refer students to the courses they can contact Amy Walton on esolmanager@afghanistan-central-asian.org.uk or 0208 572 0300, or drop into our office for a chat (169 Staines Road, Hounslow, TW3 3LL)

Capacity and leadership development opportunity – Ella Forums
You run a small charity, looking to grow. You run a start-up social enterprise. You run a bigger charity and you find leadership challenging. You aspire to lead a charity yourself, one day.
Whatever your position, if you believe that local charity and social enterprise leaders can learn from each other, please get in touch!
Ella Forums bring together leaders and aspiring leaders of smaller charities and social enterprises to share their experience in a constructive and supportive way. Meeting together as a peer group, once a month, they develop leadership skills and share ways of growing the capacity and efficiency of their organisations.
Ella has to make a charge to cover the costs of running a monthly Forum and we know that very small charities find it difficult to meet new costs. Our fee structure reflects ability to pay and we ask businesses to help the local community by sponsoring a local charity to take part.
A new Ella Forum is opening in May, in Hounslow, though organisations from neighbouring boroughs are very welcome to join. You can find out more about Ella at www.Ella-forums.org and more about the new, local group from its chair, Brentford-based Tom Levitt: tom@ella-forums.org
