In 2021, the Housing and Campaigning project supported BAME and other disadvantaged residents in Ealing and Hounslow to better understand housing systems, strengthen their voice and campaign for improved housing outcomes. It emerged in a context where overcrowding and housing inequality had become especially visible, highlighting the importance of helping residents engage with housing issues collectively and with greater confidence.
Its wider significance lay in how it linked housing to dignity, health and representation. By supporting residents’ associations and community groups with knowledge and engagement, the project helped bring underheard voices more clearly into local housing conversations.
